Quebec expands secularism law amid rights concerns
The Quebec government has defended its decision to expand the province’s secularism law, known as Bill 21, with the introduction of Bill 9. The new bill would ban subsidized daycare and private school workers from wearing religious symbols, extend the ban on face coverings in public education settings, and require permits for public prayer gatherings.
