John Harbaugh has been dismissed as the Baltimore Ravens’ head coach after 18 seasons, owner Steve Bisciotti announced Tuesday. The decision comes after a disappointing 8-9 season where the Ravens, initially considered Super Bowl contenders, missed the playoffs. Harbaugh, who led the team to a Super Bowl victory in 2012, finishes his tenure with a 193-124 record, including postseason games.
Bisciotti described the decision as “incredibly difficult,” praising Harbaugh’s integrity and leadership over his Hall of Fame-worthy career. Despite early success, including three AFC championship appearances in his first five seasons, the Ravens struggled in recent years, blowing 10 double-digit leads in the second half over the last six seasons. This marked Harbaugh’s sixth playoff miss with the team.
Harbaugh expressed gratitude in a farewell statement, acknowledging the organization’s support and reflecting on his tenure. The season was marred by inconsistencies, including a 1-5 start in 2025 after quarterback Lamar Jackson’s injury. The Ravens’ final loss to Pittsburgh, decided by a missed field goal, sealed Harbaugh’s fate after three straight seasons without a playoff berth.
